If you are aged 12-18, and are at Grade 7+ on your chosen instrument, now is your chance to audition to join the Bristol Youth Orchestra.

The Bristol Youth Orchestra is the city’s flagship instrumental ensemble featuring over 70 of the most talented young musicians in Bristol. Part of the Bristol Centre for Musicians, the orchestra rehearses every Saturday morning during term time at Bristol Cathedral Choir School, performing two concerts a year, one at Christmas and another around Easter.

Bristol Youth Orchestra strives to give talented young musicians a world-class music education and experience to encourage a future in music. The orchestra holds the prestigious position of being one of the Bristol Beacon Young Companies in Residence, a talent development programme for young classical and creative musicians.

Successful applicants will also be given the opportunity to join the orchestra on Tour to France in summer 2022!

What to expect at the audition:

  • This will be a 10-minute audition with sectional tutors from Bristol Youth Orchestra
  • Applicants will need to play a short unaccompanied piece of music (two-three mins) to reflect their current playing standard – this can be an excerpt from a longer piece if required.
  • You will be asked to sight-read a short extract and will be asked to play one or two scales.

We’re looking to recruit members across the whole orchestra but if you play: viola, double bass, oboe, bassoon, french horn, trombone, tuba or percussion, and if you don’t meet the above requirements, we’d still like to hear from you please contact email hidden; JavaScript is required

Closing date for applications is 1 July 2021.
