News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

After more than a year spent mainly indoors, children, families and nurseries are being urged to take a toddle on the wild side for Barnardo’s.

In 2019, Barnardo’s annual Big Toddle fundraiser saw thousands of under-fives take part in short, sponsored ‘toddles’ to raise money for the UK’s largest children’s charity.

But the Covid-19 pandemic meant that many of last year’s toddles were postponed or took place on a much smaller scale.

Now, with the easing of coronavirus restrictions across the UK, the Big Toddle Week is back for 2021 from June 28th-July 4th and Barnardo’s, the UK’s leading children’s charity, is calling on children, families and nurseries to join in the fun in a Covid-secure way with safari-themed sponsored toddles.

With lots of opportunities for creative dressing up and animal-themed early years learning resources available to those who register, this year’s Big Toddles are sure to be roar-some!

Parents, carers and nurseries are encouraged to hold their very own Big Toddles to help raise money for Barnardo’s. These could be a community Big Toddle, one for family and friends or one organised by nurseries or primary schools.

“The Big Toddle is a great example of how little feet can make a really big difference, and I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring it back this year,” said Barnardo’s Chief Executive Javed Khan.

“After an incredibly difficult period as a result of coronavirus, we hope our little supporters will enjoy taking part in the toddle with their friends and family, while staying safe at the same time.
