News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

In a year when Bedminster Down School was delighted to retain its Ofsted ‘Good’ rating, it is also celebrating its best set of GCSE results for a number of years.

Among the success stories is BDS student Ka Yui Lam (pictured below) who wants to be an Aerospace Engineer and is delighted to get 8s in his Maths and Sciences. When he moved to the UK from Hong Kong, Ka Yui Lam says that he found Maths really difficult and he’s grateful to his teacher for developing a love of the subject.

Meanwhile, Ayeshia Barnes-Wilson says she feels relieved and excited to get grades 7-9 in her GCSEs but is particularly proud of her grade 9 in History.

Headteacher Louise Davies said, “The students who are receiving their results today were in secondary school for only a few months when Covid hit and we went into lockdown. They have confronted enormous challenges. It’s therefore all the more impressive that they have done so well this year.

“We’re delighted that the hard work and determination of our young people has paid off. We hope our students feel proud of all that they’ve achieved as part of the Bedminster Down community.”
