News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

Families visiting Brunel’s SS Great Britain this summer can now enjoy a new brick-building zone that challenges young inventors to take inspiration from Brunel’s dramatic bridges, daring tunnels and record-breaking ships as they construct models from giant building bricks.

Aspiring engineers can become Brunel’s Apprentice by collecting an ‘engineer’s satchel’ packed with intriguing activities, including deploying binoculars, magnifying glass and a torch.

Also new for summer 2024, a multimedia tour brimming with fascinating audio and video content allows visitors to delve deeper into the ship’s story than ever before. The Bloomberg Connects app can be downloaded free of charge before even visiting the ship.

These experiences add to the attraction’s existing undercover spaces, including two museums, a dry dock, a ship, and a covered picnic area, making a family day out truly weatherproof.

Andrew Edwards, Chief Executive at Brunel’s SS Great Britain, said, “As a leading family visitor attraction, we tasked ourselves with offering exceptional value for a day out this summer, and we really hope we’ve succeeded. The new activities are hands-on and engaging for all ages, complementing everything we offer year-round in the two museums and, of course, throughout every deck of the ship.

“This is a day out where you are encouraged to climb into bunks, dress up meet our Victorian characters, and have a terrific time. We know value for money is important, so every ticket continues to allow unlimited return visits for a year.”

Visitors can enjoy an array of new experiences this summer as bosses at Bristol’s top-rated attraction have introduced special family tickets, now available at lower prices.

Special summer family tickets are available at www.ssgreatbritain.org/tickets

Family tickets for two adults and two children are available for £57 (usually £62). Tickets for one adult and two children are £39 (usually £42). These special summer family tickets allow unlimited return visits for a year at no extra cost. Plus, a new parking arrangement means parking in the city centre costs just £5.20 for up to five hours.
