News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

Families from across the Bristol region are being invited to take part in two adventures this summer and help raise funds for St Peter’s Hospice in the process.

The two events are The St Peter’s Hospice Treasure Trail and Bristol’s Tour de Fun. The former is a pirate-themed treasure trail taking you around the St Peter’s Hospice shops where you collect virtual treasure by scanning the QR codes in the windows. Each code offers a different experience from pirate selfies to discounts in our shops. Each sign up automatically enters you into a prize draw to win a treasure chest of goodies too.

Tour de Fun is a family bike ride and a spinoff from our well known Tour de Bristol cycling event. We have created family friendly routes around Bristol for all abilities to enjoy.

“Like many other charities, our fundraising took a massive hit during the pandemic, so we have had to think a little differently and come up with some new fundraising initiatives,” said Sophie Cullinane, Campaign Manager at the hospice. “We have therefore created two different activities focused on getting out and exploring our beautiful city, whilst raising money for Bristol’s only adult hospice.”

You can choose from two Tour de Fun routes around Bristol

You can register now for the St Peter’s Hospice Treasure Trail which will go live on 1 August. Once registered, you’ll be emailed a link to download your Treasure Trail Activity Pack which will give you everything you need to complete our Treasure Trail as well as fun activities to enjoy at home!

There are four trails to choose from, each taking in different areas of Bristol, and of course, the hospice’s shops. At each stop you will need to find and scan the QR codes hidden in the shop windows with your smart phone to reveal ‘treasure’ such as pirate-themed selfie experiences, jokes, stories, discounts and interesting facts about Bristol’s Hospice.

Simply use your phone’s camera to scan the QR codes, or download and use any QR scanner app on your phone. Only one person from your family/group needs to collect these ‘collectables’ along the way to complete the trail. Collect all the treasure on the route and you’ll have the opportunity to provide the names of each child participating to be sent a personalised certificate and pirate stickers sheet!

When it comes to the Tour de Fun, this is a challenge to complete in your own time throughout August and September on a date to suit you, and with the best weather forecast. With the choice to complete either a standard route of around 15km or take on the extended route that covers approximately 30km, there’s a route to suit all abilities and using only cycle paths, shared pavements and quiet residential roads so that all ages can take part and ride for the Hospice together.

Starting in Castle Park, you’ll head straight out of the centre into the green surroundings of Eastville Park, following a scenic path alongside the river to the majestic Stoke Park. Circle around through Lockleaze and the charming St Werburghs before returning to Bristol. Take it even further by completing the extended route, and continue on through Castle park and alongside the harbourside to the stunning grounds of Ashton Court, over the iconic landmark of the suspension bridge, and back along the floating harbour and Queen Square.
