Bristol Community Ferry Boats has announced a new initiative to support community groups across Bristol. From November through February, the company will offer a free harbour tour once a week to local community groups that work with and support Bristol residents.

“As a proud community business, Bristol Community Ferry Boats is deeply committed to serving the people of Bristol,” said Roisin Tobin-Brooke, Co-Director of Bristol Community Ferry Boats. “This new initiative is designed to provide an enjoyable and educational experience for those who may not have regular access to the city’s rich maritime history and picturesque waterways.

“The free harbour tours will offer a unique way for groups to engage with the city, learn about its history and enjoy the beauty of the harbour.”

Changes Bristol, a local mental health charity providing a support network for those suffering mental distress. has previously enjoyed community trips with Bristol Ferry Boats. Jen Witts, a Project worker for the charity, said ,“The Changes Bristol community love Bristol Ferry Boats. Many of our members are life-long Bristol residents, yet many had not been on the ferry before.

“We’ve had several amazing trips out around the harbour and everyone enjoys them so much. They get to see the city from a different perspective, learn interesting and entertaining facts and have a wonderful social time with the other members.

Sara Ahmed-Qureshi, Activity Groups Coordinator for Aid Box, an organisation supporting Refugees and People Seeking Asylum in Bristol, added, “A boat ride helps create positive memories and experiences, in an environment that can reduce anxiety and depression, providing a temporary escape from their worries. These outings encourage interaction with local communities and help build friendships. where families and friends come together and share positive experiences that strengthen family ties after stressful events. They help foster connections and reduce the feelings of isolation and build feelings of belonging.”

“We believe in giving back to the community that has supported us for so many years,” added Roisin Tobin-Brooke. “Our boats are an integral part of Bristol’s identity and we want to ensure that everyone, especially those who might not usually have the opportunity, can experience the joy of Bristol harbour.”
