A new 900-place secondary school in South Bristol is one step closer to opening its doors to students following news that Bristol City Council has approved planning. Set to open its permanent site in September 2024, Oasis Academy Daventry Road will be built on the former Merrywood School in Knowle, with new facilities including an activity studio, sports hall, sports pitches and multi-use games area.
Working with the Department for Education and Bristol City Council, the team at Oasis Academy Trust, are planning to open temporary accommodation in September 2023 on the site of the existing Oasis Academy John Williams in nearby Hengrove. The site is currently being assessed to ensure it would meet the needs of students and staff.
“We’re thrilled that plans have been approved by Bristol City Countil,” John Murphy, CEO of Oasis Community Learning said. “It marks an important step forward in the project to deliver Oasis Academy Daventry Road; a secondary school that will be passionate about the progress of every student and deliver an exceptional education for local young people across South Bristol.”
