Mendip Activity Centre has seen a huge boost in rock climbing sales over the weekend following Team GB’s Gold medal on Friday 9 August.
Toby Roberts, 19, won a Gold medal in the Men’s Sport Climbing competition at the Paris Olympics. The new interest has led to Mendip increasing activity sessions availability throughout August.
Speaking on BBC Radio Bristol on Friday, George Combe, Marketing Manager and Climbing Instructor at Mendip Activity Centre, said, “I’m over the moon to have watched Toby win Gold at the Olympics. Having something as small as climbing live on the big stage is amazing for the climbing world and the wider outdoor activity industry.”
Going on to explain the benefits of climbing, George said, “Whilst we’ve just watched Toby win the ultimate climbing competition, in actual fact, climbing isn’t always about competition; it’s about participation and for that reason it’s a really inclusive and accessible sport. I would encourage everyone to give it a go”
Mendip Activity Centre offer Rock Climbing at its private limestone quarry, Sandford Quarry in Churchill. Spaces are available for ages 8+ from £25 per person. Mendip Activity Centre’s family campsite, Mendip Basecamp, has a portable climbing tower. Campers from aged 6+ can try the climbing tower for free on Thursday evenings.
