Venturers’ Academy in Bristol is celebrating success in the annual Engage in their Future awards, held on 3 November. Three students and a former student were honoured at the national event, which celebrates the achievements and progress of young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

Jessica Eynon was awarded gold in the Innovation and Creativity category. Jessica was shortlisted for her outstanding contributions to Art and her continuing progress. Lakhile Dlamini and Lewis Brayne (pictured above) received gold in Team of the Year. They were shortlisted for their collaboration on the song called Waves, written by Lewis and jointly performed.

Cerys Sandford was awarded bronze in the Outstanding Achievement category. Cerys gained GCSE Art, English and Functional Skills Maths as part of the first Year 11 cohort at Venturers’ Academy last year and has settled well into her Post 16 studies at City of Bristol College.

The four students attended the presentation ceremony, which was held in Manchester, via a video link from the academy site in Withywood. They were accompanied for the live event and celebrations by their parents and staff members Claire Speller, Ian Hall, Rebecca Beveridge, Alphie Archer and Marie Pitt.

“This was a wonderful occasion and it was a privilege to share the day with our amazing students and their proud parents,” said Ms Speller, Assistant Principal. “At Venturers’ Academy we work with colleagues, students and families to create an atmosphere where everything’s possible – and these young people have proved they can succeed.”

David Watson OBE, Chief Executive Officer of Venturers Trust, the multi-academy trust of which Venturers’ Academy is a part added, “Many congratulations to Jessica, Lakhile, Lewis and Cerys – and thank you to everyone who supported them to earn these awards. Across Venturers Trust, we believe that all children can succeed when they have access to a high-quality education in a positive environment that nurtures their skills and talents. These students are an inspiration to us all and I’m certain that they will continue to flourish as they work towards their ambitious goals.”
