Two of Bristol’s harbourside attractions will be hosting a collaborative Virtual Tour ahead of showcasing their services to the public. The tour will be hosted on 20 April at 13:30.
Underfall Yard and Café has now reopened, and Bristol Ferry services and tours will resume from May 17th.
To mark their long-awaited return, the public are invited to join Underfall Yard Trust and Bristol Ferry for a free virtual tour of Bristol’s historic Floating Harbour and Underfall Yard.
The iconic yellow and blue ferries will be seen sailing around the docks over the next few weeks, as part of their team member’s training before welcoming passengers on board.
Andrew Blayney, Heritage, Learning and Volunteering Manager at Underfall Yard, said, ”Virtual tours have been an excellent way of allowing Underfall Yard to continue to tell its story and engage with the community during lockdown.
“Since the launch of the tours in January, nearly 600 people from Bristol and around the world have ‘visited’ the yard to discover its history, experience its ambiance and see its unique collection of history machines in action.
“Departing from Castle Park, we will explore the harbour to discover the people, places and events that shaped its development from the medieval period to the present day.
“Underfall Yard is an important reminder of Bristol in its heyday as a busy commercial port and while there we will experience the power of the hydraulic pumps and accumulator that once made the Docks tick.”
Carrie Hitchcock, Education Officer at Bristol Ferry, added, “Having been closed for over a year it has been so sad not to welcome to school groups on board our ferryboats for our Educational Tours.
“We cover a range of subjects including our tours which explore Bristol’s involvement with Transatlantic Slavery– and the regeneration of Bristol, featured in the GCSE Geography curriculum.
“A lot of not-for-profit businesses and registered charities have kept their businesses alive by reaching to their customers using virtual tours and we are excited to offer this collaborative tour ahead of our re-opening.”
The event will be available to join from the Underfall Yard’s website for free, with an option to donate to both companies on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis.
