News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

With October half term just around the corner (already!), both Bristol Zoo Gardens and the Wild Place Project have a whole series of family treats planned.

Bristol Zoo Gardens is giving visitors the chance to spot spooky skeletons and learn all about the clever bones inside your favourite vertebrates.

Plus there will be the chance to see over 300 incredible animal species during your visit. Dare to discover dark and spooky Twilight World with its nocturnal inhabitants, see the creatures in Bug World and spy 12 critically endangered Livingstone’s fruit bats hanging upside down in the bat aviary.

And that’s not all… Take in the beautiful autumnal colours of the changing season, go wild in the play area and enjoy tasty food and drinks from the café and food outlets. For the adventurous, why not have a go on the ZooRopia aerial ropes course?

Wild Place Project

A visit to Wild Place Project gives visitors the chance to marvel at the changing colours of the season with over 50 acres of woodlands, meadows and gardens to enjoy. Grab an extra layer and keep warm with a seasonal drink from the café, then delight in the rustle of leaves underfoot, the chill in the air and the special glow of nature this season.

Spot bears, wolves, wolverines and lynxes, including two kittens – named Bramble and Rowan – roaming the award-winning Bear Wood exhibit, and don’t miss giraffes, zebras, gelada ‘baboons’, cheetahs, meerkats and ring-tailed lemurs, among many others.

All the play areas at Wild Place are now open. Kids can run wild in the Fun Fort, Congo Bongo, Barefoot Trail and giant bird’s nest. And if you’re feeling really adventurous, there’s Leap of Faith – the thrilling outdoor climbing experience for children and adults.
