Year 7 and 9 students from Redmaids’ High School in Westbury-on-Trym recently enjoyed their first chess tournament of the school year.
The students competed in the Bristol qualifying round for the ECF National Schools Chess Tournament. There were a total of 26 teams from 18 different schools, the largest regional qualifying event in the national tournament!
The competition was extremely tough, with students from different year groups competing against each other. On this occasion, while the Redmaids’ students didn’t make it through to the Regional stages, they found it great fun and learnt a lot from the competitive experience.
Mr Kim, Head of Outdoor Adventures Programme, said, “A huge well done to the whole team for your brave spirit, commitment and hard work in Chess Club leading up to the event as well as throughout the tournament itself, we are all very proud of you!”
