Luke Jerram’s Gaia at Bristol Cathedral

October 16 – 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 6:00 pm, repeating until 9th November 2024

Gaia

Combining faith, science and art in celebration. Gaia is 1.8 million times smaller than the Earth, with each centimetre of the internally lit sculpture representing 18km of the Earth’s surface. The installation was designed by Jerram to recreate the Overview Effect, a phenomenon first described by Frank White in 1987. Feel awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment.

Alongside the exhibition, there will be a performance of Hayden’s Creation and the soundtrack from David Attenborough’s Blue Planet performed by Bristol Ensemble, as well as late night live music experiences.
