There is celebratory atmosphere at Sir Bernard Lovell Academy in Oldland Common today as Year 13 students collected their A-Level exam results.
The positive work ethic, determination and resilience of the sixth form students at SBL has been rewarded by a fantastic set of results. The overall pass rate has increased significantly from recent years, with over 98% of students achieving a successful outcome. Furthermore, there has been a marked increase in the proportion of top grades at A*-B and Distinction*-Merit, as well as a rise in the average points score per qualification achieved by the students.
The school is particularly pleased that of the students who applied to university, 96% of them have secured places at their first or second choice institution, including a number at prestigious Russell Group universities. Other students have been offered high quality advanced apprenticeships both locally and further afield.
Robin Bassford, Headteacher, said, “Our amazing Year 13 of 2024 are a credit to themselves, their parents and our staff who have provided the inspiration, support and guidance to enable our young people to succeed. I am so proud of each and every one of them, not just because of their brilliant results today but also for their significant contributions to the wider school life at SBL. We are confident that our students have exciting futures ahead.”
Oliver Jones from Sir Bernard Lovell Academy achieved a stunning set of A-Level grades in Economics (A*), Maths (A*), Further Maths (A) and Physics (A) which together earned him a whopping 208 UCAS points. The sixth form team at SBL wish him all the best as he progresses to study a Maths degree at the University of Bath in September.
Congratulations to Rowan McNeill from Sir Bernard Lovell Academy who achieved a hat full of top grades in Maths (A*), Physics (A) and Economics (A). Thanks to these fantastic grades, Rowan will study Economics at the University of Exeter, his first choice uni.
Sir Bernard Lovell Academy is super proud of Keely Harrington-Parry who has secured an advanced apprenticeship to become a paramedic. Keely achieved a distinction* in sport, a distinction in health and social care and a C grade in psychology. Well done Keely!
