From family events and workshops, to performances from world-class circus artists, Circomedia’s Autumn season for 2024 will run from Friday 6th September – Tuesday 24th December
As Circomedia celebrates 30 years in operation, the renowned Bristol-based circus and physical theatre school has announced its line-up of autumn shows, running from Friday, 6th September to Tuesday, 24th December.
In celebration of the school’s long history, this season shines the spotlight on some of the many talented alumni now working on the international circus scene. It will include
- A special performance-lecture-demonstration on clowning and mask work by the school’s founder Bim Mason.
- Two exciting double bills of new work by alumni from the last 10 years, VOLT.
- A regional circus scratch-night presenting work-in-progress snippets by creatives from the South West of England.
- A hit touring show Natalie Inside Out by world-class hand-balancer Natalie Reckert and Fool Time alumni and guest lecturer Mark Morreau.
These celebrations are accompanied by showcases from Circomedia’s current cohort, as the season kicks off with MA Final Major Projects, presented by Circomedia’s graduating Masters in Directing Circus students.
As the only MA of its kind in the world, four unique projects will be presented over two nights on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th September. In November, Cirocmedia’s BTEC students will take to the stage to showcase the range of circus skills and disciplines they have learnt in the first term in a cabaret style public performance.
Community Open Doors Event
On Saturday 14 September, as part of the Heritage Open Days festival, Circomedia will be hosting its third Community Open Doors event of the year. Bringing accessible circus skills to young people in their local community, this will be a free-to-attend day of activities offering attendees the chance to try out circus skills such as trapeze and juggling, as well as African drumming and dance routines, alongside activities hosted by local St. Paul’s creatives.
At 9:30am and 12:30pm, the Churches Conservation Trust are also offering rare, free opportunities to take guided tours of this historic local landmark. This event is curated by Norman ‘Rubba’ Stephenson and hosted by Circomedia.
Festive season finale
Towards the end of the season, two family-friendly shows will take to the stage. Run, run, as fast as you can to book tickets for The Gingerbread Man on Friday 1 November. Presented by Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company, and directed by Circomedia alum Niki McCretton, this is the perfect half-term treat for ages 3+ and their families.
Finishing off the season with a three day run of shows from Sunday 22 – Tuesday 24 December is Circomedia’s Winter Show Commission, Mother Deer. A family-friendly feast of festive storytelling, Mother Deer will blend aerial acrobatics, dance and sensory theatre to remind audiences of mankind’s deep connection to the natural world in the English Winter months.
For adults, The Decadent Rabbit Cabaret will return to the stage for a three-show run at the end of November, with a dazzling new line-up for their popular, annual cabaret extravaganza, presenting a fantastic option for a festive friends night out or even a work Christmas party!
