Compass Point Primary in Bedminster is working with our local councilors Tessa Fitzjohn (Green Party) and Mark Bradshaw (Labour) to make South Street a safer environment for children, families and local residents.
The school is developing a scheme to improve road safety which will include a disabled bay/delivery drop off, wider pavements, and a safer crossing point.
Their priorities are to –
– Improve street and pavement safety around the park and school encouraging more people to walk
– Ease congestion and encourage a better flow of traffic by allowing vehicles to drop off or make deliveries without obstructing the road
– Encourage drivers to adhere to the 20mph speed limit
– Provide a pushchair and wheelchair friendly crossing allowing everyone easy access to green spaces
– Support children with special needs to be able to be safely dropped off at school
– Give all children safe and easy access to the school playing field for PE and forest school
– Improve the safety of the junction with South Street and British Road
Compass Point has an opportunity to apply for funding to make the plans a reality. However, to help with the bid they would really like your opinions and feedback.
The above plan is a draft at this stage and if funding is approved there will be a feasibility study followed by formal consultation.
If you would like to comment on the draft proposal, Compass Point would would like to hear your views. To complete a short questionannaire, go to https://forms.gle/GBiyRuF2vv5mJ1i8A
