A celebration of all things autumnal including pumpkin patch Fur, Fangs, and Feathers scavenger hunt (28 Oct–1 Nov) to explore the zoo, hunt for hidden clues whilst learning all about some fascinating animals and native wildlife. Participants will receive a discount pumpkins purchased from the patch and win a family animal adoption of your choice. There will also be displays with a selection of birds of prey.

Among the highlights will be some of the most outlandish pieces in history, including the BOAC paper dress designed for flights to the Caribbean and the entirely tartan uniform once used by Caledonian Airways. Halloween sessions to create a metal sculpture (pumpkin or spider) using their creativity and learning practical engineering skills. Sessions last 50mins; suitable for ages 8-16 years. Groups will have a maximum of 4 children participants and 2 tutors. There is limited space upstairs to observe during the session for parents/guardians.  A selection of overalls will be available, but there is no guarantee of available sizes on the day. Explore all the different ways that their animals can be deadly and listen to special talks and watch a squid dissection as aquarium staff demonstrate the biology of this creature. With visual design and technology, dance and humour to explore the warped and exaggerated realities of living in a world you struggle to process, based on Aakash’s show Murmur 2.0, to provide an honest and heart felt conversation about the trials and tribulations of living with dyslexia, facing challenges and overcoming the odds. Performances at 12pm and 330pm; suitable for ages 7+.

Screening a whole host of shadow puppet fairytale films of witches, fairies, and flying horses. Films will be The Flying Horse, The Sleeping Beauty, Thumbelina, The Grasshopper and the Ant, Snow white and Red Rose, and Hänsel and Gretel. The screenings will be followed by a family workshop (suitable for ages 6-14 years) to create your own bewitching stories and puppets, working with a mysterious moving light to make bewitching short stories. Dress-up encouraged.

A family dance party with an hour of treats (no tricks!). Two enchanting artists will lead you through a high energy session of music, dance and movement games, with props, lights and fun by the cauldron-load. As well as the Gaia exhibition, Bristol Cathedral are also hosting Stargazing nights in autumn, with an astronomer giving an awe-inspiring guided tour of the night sky including constellations, and the science behind the stars, with a telescope set up in the gardens to see the cosmic views. Sessions last 30mins and includes a hot drink.
