This spring, Visit Bristol is showcasing World Photography in Focus, five prestigious photography exhibitions taking place in Bristol, enabling visitors and locals to see award-winning images of the world’s spectacular sights, wonderful wildlife and fabulous food, all in one city.
The campaign brings together international exhibitions from Travel Photographer of the Year, Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year, RWA’s Photo Open Exhibition and Historic England’s Picturing High Streets Exhibition as the world’s leading photography comes to one city simultaneously, for the very first time.
To mark the collaborative campaign, Visit Bristol have also launched its World Photography in Focus competition where entrants are in with a chance of winning a photography-themed break in the city including an overnight stay for two at DoubleTree by Hilton Bristol City Centre, a private tour for two people of Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year, two tickets to Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Travel Photographer of the Year Inspiring Photography weekend, plus a meal for two at Harvey Nichols Second Floor Restaurant.

Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year is the world’s leading awards for food photography and film. It premieres its twelfth exhibition from 20 May – 11 June at The Royal Photographic Society, one of the oldest photographic societies in the world. With over 170 images from more than 25 categories, ranging from politics to portraiture, the exhibition captures the great sweep of stories and cultures in the world of food.
Set between The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) and the Martin Parr Foundation is the outdoor and free-to-visit exhibition of winning images from the international Travel Photographer of the Year. On display for the first time, this stunning selection of contemporary travel photography can be seen 24 hours a day, seven days a week anywhere (from 29 April – 31 May).
Expect wanderlust to set in as glorious, sweeping landscapes and seascapes, the beauty and ferocity of this planet’s wildlife, fascinating glimpses of other lives and other cultures are all featured in this exhibition of more than 150 images from hugely talented amateur and professional photographers from all over the world.
On 27 and 28 May, RPS is also hosting an Inspiring Photography Weekend, with a packed programme of talks, panel discussions, portfolio reviews and seminars, plus opportunities to meet some of the most celebrated photographers working across travel, wildlife and conservation.
This year’s much anticipated return of Royal West of England Academy’s Photo Open Exhibition (on now until 1 May) aims to showcase the sheer quality and range of photographic work being produced by photographers and artists across the UK and abroad. The Open Call exhibition invited submissions from artists and photographers, at any stage of their careers, who create photographic work or explore the nature of photography in their work.
Known as Bristol’s oldest gallery, the RWA reopened April 2022, after undergoing a multi-million pound refurbishment, with a keen focus on providing an accessible space for all people (the gallery has a Changing Places toilet facility for visitors using wheelchairs to use, as well as a new lift and digital entrance signage, using British Sign Language).
M Shed is once again hosting the prestigious wildlife photography competition from the Natural History Museum. Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition (on now until 29 May) is in its 58th year and has become a global platform showcasing 100 extraordinary images from entries from over 90 countries all over the world.
Historic England’s national touring outdoor exhibition, Picturing High Streets, is also open now until 1 May, on display on Merchant Street in Broadmead, Bristol. This curated collection of 60 photographs celebrates high street heroes and captures candid scenes and characters to form a contemporary portrait of England’s high streets.
