A new company has recently started up in Portishead to provide bespoke financial advice about mortgages to families across the region. CC Mortgages was founded by local dad Chris Collins, a former teacher and professional footballer who has a wealth of experience within the financial services sector, with many years advising on mortgages and protection.
“My customer base is largely young families who are both planning for the future and looking to make the most of the resources that they have. This often means in terms of improving their family home and putting protection in place for their children.
“The services I provide includes holistic financial advice on mortgages and designing personal and family protection portfolios for parents. This can be discussed both face-to-face or, more commonly since the pandemic, through video calls which allows parents to receive the advice in their comfort of their own home. I set up a free initial consultation with them over the phone and complete a fact find to gather a better understanding of their needs. This allows me to create recommendations based on their needs. It’s at this stage that the parents can decide whether they would like to proceed with my recommendations or not.
“Even in the short time that CC Mortgages has been established, it’s already received some great testimonials and the feedback has been excellent. I think that this is because I’ve never adopted a hard sell approach, but rather a personal approach that appreciates that every family’s needs are different and I design my advice tailored to individual needs and circumstances.”

As he explains, “Circumstances inevitably change with a new addition to the family, when moving home or perhaps when changing jobs. This is a perfect opportunity to review family protection to make sure everyone is fully covered suitable to their current circumstances, as this may be very different from many years ago when policies were originally taken out.
“One of the real pleasures with the services that we offer is working with families at different stages of their lives, from those as first time buyers looking to make their first steps onto the property ladder, families moving home and those looking to remortgage to release funds and raise money for home improvements, as well as anyone entering the buy to let investment market.”
