News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

Bridge Farm Primary is celebrating an Ofsted report that rates the school as Good in all areas.

‘Pupils are polite and friendly. Their conduct is exemplary. There is a strong feeling of community and warmth that permeates through the school,’ the inspectors said.

They also noted the warm relationships between pupils and staff and said that children felt ‘a palpable sense of excitement about the day’s learning.’

The team of four inspectors visited the 629-pupil primary school in Whitchurch, south Bristol, for two days in June and judged it to be Good for its quality of education, leadership and management, early years provision, pupils’ behaviour and attitudes and personal development.

They praised headteacher Joy Mounter and her team for being ambitious for all pupils to achieve well and for providing opportunities for children to develop confidence.

‘Pupils are keen to do their best. They recognise that to get better at something, it takes persistence and practice. They value the rewards they receive for their positive engagement and resilience,’ the report said.

This was the first Ofsted inspection since Bridge Farm joined Futura Learning  Partnership and the report praised the benefits the multi-academy trust had brought.

‘The trust and the local governing committee share the school’s ambitious vision and determination that all pupils learn well,’ Ofsted said.

‘They have a clear understanding of the school’s strengths and areas of development. Staff value the high-quality support and collaboration provided by ‘the school and trust family.’ They are proud to be part of the school and appreciate the consideration of school leaders for their workload and wellbeing.’

Other positive comments in the report included:

  • Children in the Reception Year make a strong start.
  • The school meets pupils’ needs well. Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are quickly identified and planned support is well-devised and precise.
  • They [pupils] learn how to become thoughtful young people who respect and appreciate the diversity of the world in which they live.

Mrs Mounter said, “We are all very pleased and proud of this report, which reflects how happy, safe and successful children are at Bridge Farm. Our dedicated staff will continue to work hard, with the support of the trust, to make sure everyone at our school has the chance to flourish.”

Andrea Arlidge, chief executive of Futura Learning Partnership, added, “Congratulations to everyone at Bridge Farm. This report is a just reward for all the effort put in by children, families, teachers and support staff to ensure this community has the school it deserves.”
