The Helicopter Museum in Weston Super Mare, the world’s largest dedicated helicopter collection with over 100 exhibits on display, has announced a fantastic programme of events for 2022, including many aimed at children and families.
Housed in a huge undercover hangar in Weston Super Mare, the amazing exhibits on show include two of the Queen’s Royal Flight helicopters, the current world speed record holder G-LYNX, a Vietnam Veteran Huey, a Russian Hind Gun Ship plus much more.
There’s also a number of open cockpit days on offer, where visitors get a chance to sit in some of the helicopters, helicopter air experience flights, plus a cafe on site serving a selection of food and drinks.
Among the events coming up for 2022 are –
23 Feb Wacky Wednesday Children’s Show and Children’s Open Cockpit Day
A fun-packed day of craziness with morning and afternoon family shows for our younger visitors. Expect magic, balloon modelling, laughter, games and even custard pies! Also climb into the pilots seat of some of our helicopters, try on a pilots helmet and have the controls explained to you by an experiences guide.
2 & 3 April 2022 World At War Weekend 10th Anniversary Event & WWII Vehicles & Encampment
See the land surrounding Weston Airfield’s original WW2-era control brought to life by huge living history camps,
military re-enactors and historic vehicles
13th & 20th April 2022 Magic at The Museum
Special Holiday Activity Days for families at the museum with different activities every week. Watch a live magic show, witness incredible balloon modelling, marvel at the slight of hand illusions. Climb into the pilot’s seat of some of our helicopters, try on a pilot’s helmet. Different activities every week!
24th April 2022 ‘Silly Sunday’ Children’s Show
A fun-packed day of craziness with morning and afternoon family shows for younger visitors.
2 July 2022 American Themed Event and Car Rally
Get a close up look at an array of classic American cars including Chevrolet El Camino, Dodge Charger, Plymouth Duster, Studebaker sedan, Mercury Monclair, Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Mustang.
3 August 2022 Magic at The Museum
Every Wednesday through August. The first special holiday activity day with different activities for all the family at the museum. A live magic show, incredible balloon modelling, marvel at the sleight of hand illusions. Climb into the pilots seat of some of our helicopters, try on a pilot’s helmet
21 August 2022 World Helicopter Day
Come and celebrate as part of this International event with exclusive cockpit access to the Russian Hind and iconic Huey, plus the British-built Lynx, holder of the World helicopter speed record. 25 September 2022 Vintage Wheels Classic Car Rally
A display of vintage and classic cars around the iconic WWII Control Tower and Pilots Block.
23 October 2022 Halloween Family Fun Day
An amazing day of Spooky fun for the whole family. Free entry for all children in Halloween fancy dress. Live magic show, children’s games and competitions, corridor of monsters with real zombies and a haunted graveyard!
4 December 2022 Christmas Fun Day Santa arrives by Helicopter
Free present from Santa included with every child’s admission ticket purchased on the day! Come and see Santa arrive by helicopter, then meet him and his elves in his special Helicopter Grotto and sit in his famous sleigh. Winter Weather Flight Simulator, open cockpit, charity stalls and seasonal fayre, plus a live carol concert.
