News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

The UK’s leading maths and English education provider, Kumon, has announced its recent partnership with the Bristol Flyers Basketball team. With over 60 years of experience, Kumon’s mission is to help children of all ages and abilities reach their maximum potential and become enthusiastic, life-long learners.

The new partnership between Kumon and the Bristol Flyers will see representatives for the education provider being present as the Bristol Flyers take on the Newcastle Eagles on Monday 18 April, and are looking forward to meeting families and fans.

“We’re very excited to be able to support one of our great local sports teams here in Bristol and hope to celebrate with local families and supporters,” said Kumon Area Manager, Daniel Smith. “Come and speak to us on the day to find out more about Kumon and your children will be given the chance to shoot some hoops on court at halftime.

Today, over 3.6 million children around the world study Kumon. With Kumon centres operating all over Bristol, hundreds of children across the city currently benefit from studying the Kumon Maths and English Programmes, both online and at their local centre. The ethos of the Kumon Method of Learning is for children to develop the skill of self-learning. Through being encouraged to work out answers for themselves, students develop increased self-belief and confidence, which translates across all their subjects at school, and beyond into their experiences in the wider world.

Kumon helps children of any age to progress at their own pace

As Kumon students progress at their own pace, based on their ability rather than their age, many are able to tackle work that’s more advanced than their school year level. An independent study conducted by the Education Policy Institute in 2020 found that Kumon pupils significantly outperform their peers in their Key Stage 2 SATs, achieving scores that place them over a year ahead of the national average and over six months ahead of their matched peers in maths.

“We’re also looking for dynamic people who would like to run their own education business in Bristol by taking over or starting a new Kumon franchise with high earning potential,” added Daniel. “Use your passion for education to make a difference! If this sounds like you, please get in touch with us via our website.”

With more than 620 Kumon centres operating across the UK and Ireland, parents looking to support their child’s learning can contact their local Instructor for an informal conversation or a free assessment of their child’s ability. Your Instructor will set your child an individualised plan, whether your goal is to help them catch up, get ahead or simply discover a love of learning.
