Persimmon Homes Severn Valley has submitted its planning application for the delivery a new school at its site in Weston-Super-Mare

The plans for the building – designed to host Weston Airfield Primary School, a nursery, and a community space – were sent to North Somerset Council as part of the housebuilder’s commitment at Haywood Village site, which when complete will deliver over 2,500 homes to local families.

The T-shaped building will be the second school Persimmon has delivered for the local community as part of the site. It will be equipped with solar panels and powered by air-source heat pumps, while the estate will also include wildflower areas, insect hotels, potential beehives and log-based habitats.

There will be 630 places through three forms of entry at the school to serve the wider development. It will comprise of 21 classrooms, a 103-place nursery provision together with school hall, kitchen facilities, and staff and head teacher rooms. In addition, there is a community hub comprising of studios and changing room facilities.

Commenting on the plans for the new school, Persimmon Homes Severn Valley Managing Director Paul Moody said, “Persimmon is extremely happy with the good progress being made at our high standard Haywood Village site in Weston, allowing us to start the next stage of the development which is building the school for the children who will occupy the new homes.

“Weston Airfield will be the second primary school that we will be built for the community we are creating and the plans – from its environmentally friendly energy sources and beautiful design to the nature-rich surroundings and community spaces – are exciting proposals to put to the council.”

Persimmon is also committed to supporting organisations in the communities in which it builds, through the delivery of new infrastructure, facilities and amenities and wider community benefits. It also donates over £700,000 to good causes each year throughout Britain as part of its Community Champions initiative. Local beneficiaries have included North Somerset People First, Westhaven School, Weston Jets Baseball Club, Haywood Village Academy, and Weston-Super-Mare RNLI.
