Two Bristol multi-academy trusts, Gatehouse Green Learning Trust (GGLT) and Excalibur Academies Trust, are exploring the possibility of a merger following the retirement of Gatehouse Green’s Chief Executive Officer, Sarah Baker, at the end of the 2021/2022 academic year.

The two trusts, which share similar values and vision for their students and staff, believe that bringing their eight schools in the city together (making a trust of 20 schools in total) will create a strong and resilient trust with the capacity to deliver exceptional educational outcomes for their students, now and in the future.

Margaret Simmons-Bird, Chair of GGLT’s Trustee Board, said, “Both our Trusts have a compelling commitment to high expectations and ambition for all our children and staff. We share the conviction that the provision of high quality education is transformative and instils in young people the best vision of themselves.”

Commenting on the benefits of a merger the CEO of Excalibur Academies Trust, Nicky Edmondson, commented, “This potential merger is an exciting opportunity for both trusts to come together, benefiting the children and staff in all the schools through a focus on the highest quality teaching and learning, plus extended opportunities for professional development.”

Consultations with both trusts’ school communities have now begun and will run until 4th November 2022. If you would like to find out more about what the proposed merger means for the schools in your community, or provide feedback on your views of the merger, you can now find information about the merger on the GGLT website (www.gglt.co.uk/Merger-Consultation).
