News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

Schools (nearly) out for summer! It’s that time of year when many of us are wondering how we’ll keep the kids entertained over the summer holidays. So, to give you a helping hand, we’ve compiled a list of some of the many sporting options available across the city this year.

Shine has three venues in north Bristol, and runs a variety of active holiday clubs for kids aged between 4 and 12. Bookings are made per day, with early drop off and late pick-up available, giving the flexibility you need. A full day from 9am to 4.30pm is £35.

  • Shine Minis (reception to Year 2) – children can choose from a variety of games to learn ball skills, coorindation and communicating with their peers – great exercise and outdoors when the weather allows.
  • Cricket Academy – qualified coaches will teach your youngsters how to bat, bowl and field. Open to beginners or those already playing in a youth team, the day includes training practice and matches.
  • Football Academy – a popular choice with girls and boys, the football academy is a great introduction for beginners and a chance to improve for those who already play. Shoot, tackle, defend and attack, teamwork and ball skills are all part of the day.
  • Multi-sports (Years 3 to 7) – can’t choose just one sport? The multi-sports day offers a selection of volleyball, dodgeball, footballe, hockey, softbacll cricket and handball. Those taking part in Multi-Sports days at Clifton High will also have the chance to have fun in the swimming pool.
  • Team Sport Workshops – check out the website for workshops that are held throughout the workshop to focus on sports including Tag Rugby, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball or Basketball.
