The Storytale Festival is returning to Bristol over the first weekend of October half term, from Friday 20th to Monday 23rd October, and is jam-packed with events for all the family. This includes myths and magic-inspired creative writing workshop with local author Anna Hoghton, to a bat-tastic story time and draw-along with author-illustrator Emma Reynolds.
There’s also a special, multi award-winning show, The Extraordinary Time-Travelling Adventures of Baron Munchausen, to kick everything off a whole week before on Sunday 15th October at the 1532 Performing Arts Centre with Oh So Funny Comedy.
Colourful Minds will open the festival on Friday 20th October with a fun and creative story and art session for pre-schoolers at The Bristol Beacon. Then author Ian Brown will bring inspiration, imagination and story ideas to The Southville Centre in Turtles, Dinosaurs and More!
Brian Frederick and his sausage dog Siggy will be in the Tobacco Factory’s snug for after-school soccer and songs, before things take a turn with zombies, spirits and things that go bump in the night as children’s entertainer Mr Brown’s Pig brings to life Halloween themed stories in Windmill Hill City Farm’s The Garden Theatre.
Saturday 21st will see We the Curious at Junction 3 library take us to where space and storytelling meet. Then author Juli Frances Taylor and illustrator Paul Carlon will mix fantasy with reality in their Amazing Albert session at Bedminster library.
In the afternoon, children can create their own island adventure with The Animal Lighthouse author Anthony Burt at St George Library or a fictional masterpiece with Orla and the Wild Hunt author Anna Hoghton at Max Minerva’s.
Join illustrator Karen George on Sunday 22nd at St Werburgh’s Community Centre for a special musical-making activity inspired by her picture book Mr Mornington’s Favourite Things. Emma Reynolds will be hosting a double bill of sessions at The Small City Bookshop in the afternoon including an interactive workshop on Nature and the Power of Peaceful Protest.
Day two will end at Waterstones with Shiver Point author Gabriel Dylan leading a create your own monster workshop!
Curious Universe will be delivering a fantastically fun and creative book cover workshop on Monday 23rd at St Paul’s Learning Centre, followed by a family friendly and fabulously empowering session with author and educator Vie Portland at the Central Library.
Middle grade author Emma Read will close the festival at Bookhaus with an event-filled with spooky stories and puzzles inspired by her latest novel, The House Trap. For young people and adults interested in working in publishing, the Society of Young Publishers are back with an informative digital session around Publishing Perspectives at 8pm.
