News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

Trinity Academy in Lockleaze, Bristol, underwent its first ever Ofsted inspection in January on the first day that Ofsted inspections resumed, with a Good rating and some outstanding results.

On 23rd and 24th January, inspectors visited the school observing lessons and meeting with staff and students. Ofsted have just published its report, judging the school to have ‘Outstanding’ Leadership and Management, and ‘Outstanding Personal Development, as well as ‘Good’ Behaviour and Attitudes and Teaching and Learning.

The schools understands that this is one of the strongest Ofsted reports of Bristol schools who have been inspected since the new framework was introduced in 2019.

Headteacher Eiron Bailey said, “We are delighted with this report. Whilst schools are so much more complex than single word judgements, we do see the full report as a recognition and affirmation of our mission and hard work.”

Neil Blundell, Chief Executive of Cathedral Schools Trust, added, “This is a wonderful endorsement for the school and welcome news for education across the city. We are proud that Personal Development was judged to be outstanding and the report recognises that ‘the school provides a wealth of opportunities and celebrates its cultural diversity.’

The school is particularly pleased that inspectors recognised, ‘This is an ambitious school that wants the best for its pupils, both academically and pastorally.’  Lessons are not disrupted by poor behaviour, pupils describe the school as tolerant and respectful, and there are warm, respectful relationships with staff.

It also acknowledged that the school’s curriculum is highly ambitious for all pupils and the school has an ‘exceptional extra-curricular programme’, with a wide variety of clubs and activities that are inclusive and valued by all.

Trinity Academy opened as a new secondary school in 2019 in support of the need for secondary school places across north Bristol, providing much needed high quality school places for children and parents. The school is already very popular with parents and significantly oversubscribed.

In September it welcomes students into its newly created sixth form which has proven very popular with high numbers of applications.
