Oompa Loompas were busy at work at Waycroft Academy as part of a spectacular Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-themed extravaganza for the annual magical celebration that is World Book Day.
Headteacher Adam Smith donned full Willy Wonka regalia and Assistant Headteacher Emma Sweet transformed as a chocolate bar, while numerous pupils dressed as Oompa Loompas.
The event, organised by the Friends of Waycroft, offered a delightful twist with rewrapped chocolate bars containing golden tickets! Parents, carers and pupils could buy the chocolate bars in the hope of winning various prizes, including the top prize of a television.
The proceeds from this fundraiser will be put towards new IT equipment, enhancing the educational experience for Waycroft Academy’s pupils.
“Our children were so excited about World Book Day this year,” said headteacher Adam. “In addition to developing reading skills, there are so many further benefits to enjoying books, such as the development of social and emotional skills, as well as promoting general health and wellbeing. It was clear to see how it opened up a world of imagination for our children.”
