News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

As part of the Bristol Jazz Festival 2024, which takes place at the Tobacco Factory Theatres from 22-24 March, young musicians at grade 2 level or above or anyone keen on discovering the magic of jazz are invited to take part in an Introduction To Jazz Workshop.

Led by Craig Crofton, a renowned jazz educator and player, this is an exciting interactive journey into modern jazz ensembles, exploring different roles and rhythm activities suitable for all levels and instruments! Bring your instruments for a chance to play along, or simply join us to listen, learn, and ask questions.

In addition, jazz vocalist, songwriter and vocal coach Victoria Klewin (director of Bristol Vocal Tuition) will lead a masterclass focussed on the fundamentals of jazz singing. From etiquette and stagecraft, to tone, phrasing, interpretation and some handy tips for creative improvisation. Joined by a piano accompanist, the workshop will take the format of a masterclass so please bring along a jazz standard to work on and any burning questions you may have.

Plus, Don’t miss the exclusive workshop with guitar royalty, John Etheridge. From progressive to jazz, classical, and folk music, John has collaborated with legends like Stephan Grapelli and Nigel Kennedy.  Get up close and personal, hear John play, and gain insights into his extraordinary career. Calling all guitarists – here’s your chance to pick up tips and tricks from a true master.
