Congratulations to the Longwell Green Sports U15s girls team who have been crowned league champions for 2021.

The core of the team has been together for seven years, coached and developed along the way by Matt Draper and Kevin O’Reilly. The team previous successes has seen them crowned U12 League Runners Up & County Cup Champions, and U13 League Champions & County Cup Champions.

“While the U15 season was a real stop start affair, with Longwell Green Girls U15 going into third lockdown top of their division, it did allow us to make the most the technology available through the likes of Zoom, Teams and online calls to keep the momentum going,” explained manager and coach Matt Draper. “With the support of Lauren from LW Sports Therapy and Kev, we continued with weekly online fitness sessions and online ball mastery, which was both great fun and most importantly it kept the girls connected socially which helped both mentally and physically.

“It also meant that when the season restarted, we were ready and hit the ground running, A busy calendar of matches and some good opposition performances made things tough, but we were strong and came through – champions again!”

Matt explained that Longwell Green Sports was formed in 1966 and now has 800 juniors, including over a 150 girls, ranging in age from age 2-18 years, as well as its senior men’s and women’s teams.
