News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

If you’re looking for a special treat for Mother’s Day, then a family visit to The Splattered Canvas art studio space in Stokes Croft, Bristol could be just the thing.

Grab a canvas and some coveralls, choose from a large selection of paint then lose yourself throwing, spaying, pouring and spinning your way into creating a beautiful canvas to take home. It all takes place in the splat zone which includes access to pendulum swings, spinning mechanisms and an array of toys and tools to paint with.

“The Splattered Canvas offers a chance for people to experience painting a canvas with no rules, pressure or boundaries,” explains co-founder and artist Aisling. “It is messy, fun and good for the soul!

Messy fun and good for the soul!

“The idea is that people feel empowered to experiment, relax and create – alone, as a couple, with their family or in a group.

“As Early Years Leaders, myself and my business partner have devoted our lives and careers to the importance of play – we both firmly believe that it is a human need and not just for children! We think that a place to play, free of judgement and rules, where people can unleash their innate creativity is something everyone should have access to.

“The result was the birth of The Splattered Canvas, where art is not just for artists and play is not just for children!”

A perfect and unforgettable family experience

Co-founder Dani explained that the events are currently held at ‘The Space’ which is run by the community group, The Peoples Republic of Stokes Croft. “Until we are able to set up our own space, this is where all our events will be held. We are also available for hire and are able to bring the Splattered Canvas to events and parties in a marquee.

“We also wanted to offer something special for Mother’s Day, with a £25 ticket allowing up to three adults or two adults and two children 45 minutes in the ‘Splat Zone’ to paint a 50cm x 60cm canvas. Children will be offered a smaller canvas board as a bonus. This special event will take place on 18 and 19 March, from 10am-6pm, and promises to be one of those unforgettable family experiences!”
