News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

Trinity Academy, part of Cathedral Schools Trust, welcomed Prince Edward the Duke of Kent last month to formally open the new school building. Marking a key milestone in the north Bristol school’s journey, the Duke visited the school’s facilities and met with pupil representatives, Headteacher Eiron Bailey, staff and Governors.

In September 2021, pupils at the secondary school in Lockleaze, moved into the bespoke £25million site which reflects the school’s specialism in music and the performing arts. To celebrate the occasion, the royal visitor and the school community attended a formal ceremony to mark the building’s opening, after which the Duke planted a tree to commemorate the school’s progress since opening its gates to pupils in 2019.

During his visit to the school’s state-of-the-art facilities, which includes an impressive 570-seater concert hall, fully equipped with professional sound and lighting systems, as well as a recital room, dance and drama studios and music practice rooms, the Duke was treated to performances from some of the school’s talented students. To mark the occasion, he also presented an opening plaque to Year 9 student Anika Mistry, who was elected by young people across the city as Bristol’s Youth Mayor earlier this year.

“It was a really inspiring day,” Anika told us. “It was exhilarating to meet HRH the Duke of Kent and great for all the students to be able to celebrate Trinity’s journey and our new building.”

As well as benefiting its students, the aim is for Trinity’s performing arts centre and sports provision to be used by arts organisations, musical ensembles and sports clubs from the wider north Bristol community to offer a wide range of health, wellbeing and creative opportunities in the area.
