News, events and schools' information for families across Bristol

Pupils and staff at Christ Church C of E School Clifton, Bristol, are celebrating the results of the section 8 ungraded school OFSTED inspection which took place in March, which confirms that the school retains its Good rating.

Celebrating the report, head teacher Clare Jones commented, “As it was an ungraded inspection, our school currently remains Good. However, over the duration of the two days the inspector found, ‘there is enough evidence of improved performance to suggest that the school could be judged Outstanding if we were to carry out a graded (section 5) inspection now.’”

Among the comments in the report were –

  • Pupils feel overwhelmingly happy and safe at Christ Church Primary School. They have a clear understanding of their school rules and demonstrate kindness and respect to one another. There are warm and caring relationships between adults and pupils.
  • Leaders are driven to ensure all pupils achieve well through a rich, varied and exciting curriculum. This is not just for the academic but also for the personal and social; elements of school life.
  • Pupils’ behaviour and conduct are exemplary. Pupils say that behaviour is good because learning is ‘fun’ and ‘challenging’.
  • The curriculum is highly effective and engaging for all pupils.
  • Children in Reception blend sounds into words and demonstrate they are phonics experts.
  • Older pupils love reading and have a passion for range of genres and authors.
  • The love the opportunities to go on trips and visits, as well as the chance to work outside in forest school.  Pupils are clear that everyone is welcome at their school. They show a high level of respect towards different beliefs and cultures.

“We are extremely pleased with this outcome as it recognises the range of strengths our school
offers both academically and pastorally, the depth of our curriculum, and inclusion of all,” said Clare.

“It is testament to the continuous and consistent hard work of our staff team to create our happy and successful school. The children played a key part during the inspection and we are very proud of how they are celebrated within our report.

“Our school is supported by many volunteers; our board of Governors who provide statutory strategic accountability and our PTA who add enrichment both financially and socially for our community, as well as members of our community who support in so many ways. We are thankful for our partnership with Christ Church and the positive contribution this brings to the life of our school.”
